It is encouraging that one is not alone and that you are able to safely navigate through this journey, with the help of God and your team.I particularly like when Mr. Ebanks was able to share his thoughts on how he felt because often times women tend to be more vocal/ emotional about the situation, however our men do go through the struggles and their feelings should be taken into consideration. Very good book indeed.Ryan2024-01-25Powerful Book Growing up as a sibling to someone with special needs taught me many life lessons, including maturity and responsibility at an early age. This book shows you the value that your child or sibling holds and the beauty created in them through God. Nothing is easy in life but love gives you strength that you did not know you had in you.Kindle Customer2020-10-17Through my eyes.. trials, triumphs and success from the eyes of a parent This book journals the trials, triumphs and successes of a parent with special needs. Most times as advocates we often want to help our parents but to hear the story from the perspectives of a parents helped empower us as advocates but at the same time appreciate our parents more..Nancy Korenz2020-08-15Very helpful... Go for it Over a period of time, as the book proceeds the author makes us feel more comfortable, helps us understand and accept the situation and helps to cope up with everything that "the parents" has to go through or already going through. The book also has a lot of excerpts from the parents who try and help the readers by sharing their own feelings, it just boosts the person on the other side of the book. Not just that, it's so well written and also it's doesn't throw advices or help at once, with each and every chapter a bit more value is automatically added to our lives, it's written in points and divided into effective chapters which enhance the mindset of the readers.Senta V. Her experiences, insights, and love toward her child offer a universal message for ALL parents and even educators who desire to be advocates, voices, and agents of change for children with diverse abilities and needs. The social, emotional, physical, and cognitive aspects of parenting are alive in this book. Mrs. Staple-Ebanks provides a rare and intimate look at the psychosocial dynamics experienced by families of children with special needs. It is a privilege to hear a father's voice speak to his frustrations and relentless love for his child and to receive the wisdom of siblings through their stories that intricately lace beauty, honesty, humor, and depth. In addition to the transformative stories, the strength-based strategies introduced throughout the book are real, practical, and plentiful! It is a must-read and should be entered in educational and clinical studies coursework to actively prepare the professional workforce to see and authentically value the voice of families. The book powerfully inspires, informs, and educates. This book is a resource companion to return to over and over again.Melina L.2020-07-24Book Review Parenthood is never guaranteed to be perfect.🦄🦄🦄How To Cope: Parenting A Child With Special Needs is a guide book by Christine E. Staples Ebanks. This book not only tells the story of the author's life while taking care of a special needs child, but also the stories of other parents who had to learn to accept their child and love them. Some of us are lucky to have parents who gave everything they had to make sure we have a comfortable life.I have a personal connection with this book because being born with cerebral palsy, I know the strugglesmy parents had to face. They were told by doctors I'd never have a normal life but look at me now.All it takes is patient and loving parents who will go whatever it takes for their child. But, that's not all because looking after a special needs child does not mean you forget yourself. A balance needs to be maintained because if you aren't healthy enough to look after your child who will? This book isn't just a book with random facts, it's a well researched and detailed book to help parents (especially new parents) to help them understand how to look after and be there for a special needs child. Its divided into two sections; Adjusting Your Life and Resources. One of the things that stood out to me was how you shouldn't listen to the insensitive things other people say.The first line in that paragraph, "there will always be someone who stares at your child..." hits do close to home because I've heard people asking my parents "Why does she walk that way?" or even my classmates pass comments like, "She can't even walk properly..." but sooner or later you learn to turn a deaf ear to these things and have to also teach your child to stay strong and remember that they are still loved. All children are a gift, whether special needs or not.🦄🦄🦄Rated 10/10Melina L.melissa ng-yu2020-07-23Very helpful and hopeful Parenting is tricky, there's no guidebook.
